Voodoo Woman! The original Voodoo Doughnut eatery in the shady part of Portland Oregon attracts people from all over the world. I’ve heard about this place for quite awhile and since I was in Portland I figured now’s the time to try them out.
We arrived mid day on a weekend and skipped the morning breakfast traffic. There was still a line inside but it was far better than waiting in a line that stretches the entire city block. That does happen.
Voodoo Doughnuts is a CASH ONLY place. So no debit or credits cards accepted. There is however an ATM machine on site just for those that weren’t aware. Many people here were purchasing boxes of a dozen doughnuts at a time. Usually when ordering a dozen you tend to get a generic mix of items depending of what’s in stock at the time.
They offer a very unique menu of styles and shapes of doughnuts which is one of those quirky things that attracts tourists and locals alike. Names such as “Tex-Ass”, “Cock-N-Balls” and “Gay Bar” just to name a few. I passed on the crazy, speciality items and chose a “Portland Creme” while Lesa, my trusty copilot opted for a safe route in choosing a “Cinnamon Sugar” and a “Mexican Hot Chocolate” doughnut.
My Portland Creme was great! Lesa’s Mexican Hot Chocolate doughnut not so much. As it turns our it had some sort of habanero spice sprinkled on it. Ouch. We didn’t see that one coming.
Trying to find parking here in downtown Portland is a bit tricky. There is no parking lot for Voodoo Doughnuts so you need to find some street parking then trek over to the shop. Not a deal breaker but I can say it’s definitely worth the minor inconvenience.
There’s a nice outdoor seating patio area where you can enjoy your doughnuts there on site which is what we did. Yum!
This is the original location. They have several locations now which include another located here in Portland, Eugene OR, Denver CO, Austin TX and even in Taipei City Taiwan! Wow. All locations are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Oh did I mention they even have Voodoo Weddings held here? Yes… you can get married here for a small fee which includes doughnuts and coffee for the reception.
